Castlight Health, the privately held San Francisco firm that provides health care cost-comparison applications to businesses, has raised a $100 million Series D financing. Ranked number-one by The Wall Street Journal on its 2011 list of the 50 best venture-backed companies, Castlight said it will use the funds to respond to growing demand for its services, broaden its product offerings and extend its reach.
A group of policy savvy citizens polled by health policy institute NEHI in a national survey about the role of innovation in meeting health care challenges indicated FDA has a burden for disclosure and for creating a risk-benefit balance in the product approval process. Overall, they took a multi-dimensional view of the relationship between innovation and the health care system, picking access for all Americans as the top target for innovative solutions, followed by lowering costs and helping people lead healthy lives.
