For FDA's top biologics review manager, Jesse Goodman, the announcement of the membership list of the Federal Coordinating Committee on Comparative Effectiveness Research was also his debut in a new role: acting chief medical officer. His background in infectious diseases and preparedness aligns well with the topside leadership in FDA and HHS.
Jesse Goodman, head of the Center for Biologic Evaluation & Research, is taking on a more prominent role within the Food & Drug Administration as the agency realigns its management in anticipation of the arrival of Commissioner-designate Margaret Hamburg and her principal deputy Joshua Sharfstein.
Goodman has been named acting Chief Medical Officer in the Office of the Commissioner. The position was created in 2007 for Janet Woodcock, but has been vacant since Woodcock returned to the Center for Drug Evaluation & Research as director a year ago.
